Movement of vehicles along the Bangalore-Kanyakumari National Highway-7 was affected for nearly 70 minutes on Thursday morning, as about 600 people from Keelsathambur Panchayat blocked the road demanding that a Tasmac-run liquor outlet be closed. The outlet was earlier functioning near a private education institution. It was recently shifted to the present location following protests.

Assistant Commissioner for Excise (Namakkal district), G. Selvaraj, promised the agitators that the outlet would be closed.
