VELLORE: Vellore Collector Dharmendra Prathap Yadav has requested non-governmental organisations to form 50 women's self-help groups each in 174 village panchayats, where the SHGs are yet to be started.

Addressing a meeting of the District Coordination Committee on Women's Development here on Friday, he said 5,141 new SHGs were started during 2005-06. He requested the District Manager of the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation to conduct entrepreneurs' development training programme under the women's development project to benefit tribal women.

The grading of SHGs should be done by the bank manager concerned, the Assistant Project Officer of the District Rural Development Agency, the Block Development Officer and the NGO. The banks should provide loans to the SHGs that functioned for six months, based on their savings.

Mr. Yadav said common facility centres had been established in 10 out of the 20 blocks. He invited proposals for setting up the centres in the remaining 10 blocks.
