A newborn boy was found abandoned near Thailanoor bus stop coming under Veeranam Police Station limits here on Tuesday.

Officials of the Child Welfare Committee said that an aged person found the baby wrapped in a cloth on a road near the Panchayat Union Elementary School. He immediately informed the police and took the baby to his home and cleaned it. The police informed the Child Line who, in turn, rescued the baby and produced it before the welfare committee chairperson A. Xavier.

Doctors examined the baby and found his health in good state. The child is said to be two or three days old. The baby was handed over to Bethel Home, an adoption centre run by a non-governmental organisation.

Mr. Xavier told The Hindu that advertisements would be released in the media about the baby and if no one comes forward to claim the baby, it would be handed over to the two licensed adoption centres in the district for legal adoption. Child Line officials said that this is the sixth newborn rescued in the last 15 days in the district.
