Emphasising the need for mingling of departments and schools in the university, new Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University Chandra Krishnamurthy said an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach was a necessity.

“In today’s world, it is imperative that technology and management go hand-in-hand. This is the same with several other disciplines, where an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach is need of the hour,” Ms. Krishnamurthy told The Hindu at the farewell for former Vice-Chancellor J.A.K. Tareen on Friday.

“The University has some of the best faculty members and resources. The plan is to consolidate these resources and innovate to come up with new areas for research and education in each department. We need to prove to the University Grants Commission that we are different and I plan to sit with each department and see where to go next,” she said.

Every university offers degrees and diplomas. Students would only come to Pondicherry University only if the university offers something different, she said.

Since the XII Plan has already been submitted, focus would be on ensuring that all the plans are executed smoothly, Ms. Krishnamurthy said.
