CHENNAI: Television channel `Imayam' was inaugurated here on Thursday by G.K. Vasan, Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation.

`Imayam' is being brought out by Channel Bharat Entertainment. Managing Director R.A. Jebaraj said that the 24-hour channel would give its viewers plenty of `infotaintment'.

Some of the programmes on the channel include `Sabash Kudumbam', a reality entertainment show with actor Kausalya playing anchor; `Chinna Kuyilkal', a singing contest for children; `Penmani', a show for women with sections for health, cookery, fitness and beauty; and `Appadi Podu', a programme on Chennai `gaana' music.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Krishnasamy, writer Sujatha and cartoonist Madhan urged the promoters of the new channel to offer informative programmes rather than the usual entertainment shows.
