Helmet wearing will be enforced stringently for motorbike riders in the district from June 1 and violators will be imposed spot fines, according to V. Balakrishnan, who assumed office as Superintendent of Police, Tirupur district.

Crime rate

Mr. Balakrishnan said that he would be giving topmost priority to bring down the high crime rate in the district besides coming out with an action plan to ease the traffic congestion in Tirupur Corporation limits.

Belonging to the 2003 batch of IPS, Mr. Balakrishnan started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police (training) in Coimbatore and as ASP in Tirupur and Ranipet sub-divisions.

IRAS

On promotion as SP, he held offices like Deputy Commissioner of Police (secretariat security) and as SP in Thiruvannamalai and Theni districts.

He had earlier worked in Indian Information Service (IIS) and Indian Railway Account Service (IRAS), both selected through the Common Civil Services examinations, before got selected into IPS in 2003.
