PUDUKOTTAI: The new office-bearers of the Aranthangi Central Jaycees assumed office at a colourful function held recently. Justin Sahayaraj, zonal president of the Jaycees installed G. Gopalakrishnan as president and his team of office-bearers on the occasion.

The zonal vice-president of the Jaycees, Ganesh administered the oath of office to them. Another zonal vice-president, P. Gurumoorthy inducted the new members.

The Chairperson of the Aranthangi Municipal Council, Sukantham Viswanathan and Pappammal Govindaraj lighted the traditional lamp.

Former MP, N. Siva, P. Arasan, MLA, who delivered special address, commended the role played by the service organisations in uplifting the weaker sections.

Special awards

The highlight of the programme was the presentation of special awards to the outstanding members of the club during last year, distribution of tree saplings and rice bags to the home for the disabled, educational scholarships to poor students.

The occasion was also utilised to release the annual calendar of the club.
