A first of its kind in this region, an advanced Liver and Pancreas ICU of Department of Gastro Intestinal and Hepato Pancreatic Surgery will be opened at Aishwaryam Speciality Hospital here on February 3.

According to Dr. J. Jayachandran, Managing Director cum Consultant Cardiologist and Dr. K.R. Prakasam, Director and Chief Consultant, Division of Liver Pancreas and Digestive Disorders, Aishwaryam Hospital, the unit would be manned by experts who would perform complex liver and pancreatic surgeries besides liver dialysis.

The modern ICU, Dr. Prakasam said, would also be equipped with Advanced Laparoscopy Unit of Karl Storz variety and Therapeutic Endoscopy Unit of Olympus 180 series with narrow Band Imaging. It would have 24 hour Bleeding care unit with blood bank components that would also offer residential intensivist support from experts.

While renowned Liver Transplantation expert from Kings College Hospital, London, Dr. Prof Mohamed Rela would inaugurate the ICU, Dr Ravindranath, Chairman, Global Hospitals Group, India would commission Liver Dialysis unit of the ICU.

The inaugural function would also have a CME programme in which renowned doctors including H. Ramesh (Lakshore Hospital, Cochin), Joy Vergeese (Global Hospital, Chennai) and Ramesh Arthanari (Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Madurai) would deliver speeches on various subjects. Dr. (Major) D. Ravishankar and others would offer felicitations.
