Work to begin in February next year

CHENNAI: A new domestic terminal, to be constructed in two levels, will come up at the Chennai airport on 70,000 sq metre area.

It will be constructed on the northern side of the existing domestic terminal, according to an Airports Authority of India (AAI) official. The ground level will be for arrival and the first level, departure.

The terminal will have aerobridge facilities. It will have all facilities of a world-class international airport. Work is expected to begin in February next year and completed in 18 months.

Says Dinesh Kumar, Airport Director, “We want to provide more space for shops inside the terminal, which will give a variety of choice for the passengers.”

A luxurious executive transit lounge will come up in the transit area inside the international terminal.

The contract has been awarded to a private company. The work will begin shortly and completed within two months. The new lounge will be created on a 225 sq metre area.
