Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday inaugurated via video conferencing the additional medical blocks constructed at various government hospitals in the district at a total outlay of Rs. 4.79 crore.

Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services G. Thirumalaisamy told The Hindu that the project expenditure was met from the corpus created under National Rural Health Mission.

The projects commissioned on the day included a 50 bed obstetrics and gynaecology block at District Headquarters Hospital, a 24 bed maternity block in taluk government hospital at Kangayam and a 30 bed medical block at non-taluk government hospital at Karadivavi.

“It has been planned to augment the capacity at the new obstetrics and gynaecology block at the district headquarters hospital soon by adding another 50 beds,” Dr. Thirumalaisamy said.

District Collector G. Govindaraj and senior officials from the department of health were present during the inauguration ceremony.
