A small but effective change made in the movement of mofussil buses around Palayamkottai bus stand has eased congestion around the bus terminus to a great extent.

As buses proceeding to Tuticorin and Tiruchendur from Tirunelveli used to be halt in front of a restaurant on the northern side of Palayamkottai bus stand, it caused traffic snarl in the stretch. The City police to ease the traffic congestion has made new arrangements. As per the new arrangement, the Tuticorin and Tiruchendur buses should enter the Palayamkottai bus stand and should halt in the bay meant for mofussil buses. After passengers have boarded, the buses should come out of the terminus and leave for their destinations in the usual route.

To ensure the prompt entry and exit of the buses, barricades have been kept in the Palayamkottai bus stand and a policeman armed with cordless microphone gives instructions to the drivers even as a traffic police sub-inspector watches the movement of buses from the exit point of the terminus.

The new arrangement has almost removed all bottlenecks in the area. Moreover, passengers, who till date had to endure the vagaries of nature can now wait in the covered terminus.

However, some mofussil bus drivers violate this arrangement, late at nights as vehicular traffic is relatively thin.
