THANJAVUR: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on Friday introduced broadband service with Nova netPC and Blackberry here.

K. V. V. Satyanarayana, General Manager, Telecom, BSNL, Thanjavur, launched the services at a function at BSNL head office. He also handed over the Nova netPC set to a broadband user.

He later told presspersons that through there are 1,20,935 land line connections in Thanjavur Telecom area, only 7312 Broadband connections are working. There is adequate capacity to give broadband connections in all the exchange areas. Though customers need internet facilities, the high cost of PC appears to be the reason for many not opting for broadband. To overcome this problem, BSNL has come out with a novel idea of dispensing with the need to have own computer at customer premises.

BSNL, Thanjavur with the strategic partnership of M/S Novatium Solutions Private Ltd has introduced the broadband connections with netPC at an affordable price of just Rs 2,999 (without monitor) which includes free Modem, Keyboard, Mouse, Video games and other recreational services.

In addition, Rs. 700 will be charged for installation. The customers can have their own monitor or can purchase from M/s Novatium.

A discount of 20 per cent will be allowed in the monthly bill for the customers under Home 125 and Home 250 plans and ten per cent discount for all other plans will be given.

Under Home 125 plan the customer needs to pay Rs. 274 and Home 250 plan needs to pay Rs. 374 as monthly charges every month. Further details can be had from Customer Service Centre at CTO complex, Thanjavur or from M/s BBC Net, Nallaiah complex, Thanjavur (Mobile no 94436 83080.

With a view to increase rural penetration, BSNL is providing this service to customers in rural areas at Rs. 1,900 with monitor also.

Blackberry provides leading wireless solution that keeps mobile professionals connected to people and information while on the go. It provides users with wireless access to full suite of business applications including e-mail, organiser, phone, SMS, MMS, browsing, instant messaging, attachment viewing etc. The cost of the back berry handset is in the order of Rs.14,499, Rs. 24,499 and Rs. 34,999.

The tariff for Blackberry internet service (BIS) is Rs. 299, Rs. 499 and Rs. 999 and free data usage will be 0Kb and unlimited respectively. Usage charges beyond free limit will be Re 0.30 /Kb and Re 0.15/Kb for the plans under Rs. 299 and Rs. 499. The tariff for Blackberry Enterprise service is Rs. 425, Rs. 625 and Rs. 875 and free data usage will be 0.40Kb and 0.20Kb for the plans under Rs. 425 and Rs. 625.
