ERODE: Erode needs a trade centre or an exhibition hall and to make it a reality all trade and industry bodies should join hands, Collector R. Sudalaikannan has said.

“Without waiting for the government support, all industries and associations should come forward and build the centre,” he said at the inauguration of Build-Expo 2009, organised here on Friday by Erode District Civil Engineers Association and Erode Civil Engineers Trust.

“It should be a private initiative just as Coimbatore District Small Industries Association has built the CODISSIA hall there.”

Such a hall would be of great assistance to industries and associations in Erode because exhibition played an important role in marketing.

“During my three-year stint as the managing director of Chennai Trade Centre, I understood the importance of exhibiting a product.”

The Collector also said that the practice of holding exhibitions and fairs had become so specialised that countries like China and Germany had specialised departments for the purpose.

He then asked the Association and Trust to play a catalytic role in making the trade centre a reality.

Kangayam MLA Vidiyal S. Sekar said he was happy to note that the Trust had taken up the task of planting saplings in Erode and the State as well. He suggested that the builders adopt environment-friendly building practices and ensure that every structure they build had a rainwater harvesting facility.
