With many changes having been introduced in the training pattern of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), 30 senior wing cadets (Girls) and three NCC women officers are now taking part in a training programme at the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) at Wellington near here.

The cadets, aged between 17 and 19, have been selected from various parts of Tamil Nadu and nearby places by the Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Directorate of the NCC.

The focus during the 15-day programme was on exposing the cadets to army environment.

They are being trained in rope climbing, crossing obstructions, firing etc.

The Commandant, MRC, Brigadier S. Suresh Kumar said that such exposure would motivate the cadets to choose a career in the defence services.

The programme would conclude by the end of the month.
