As part of the events planned to commemorate the Navy Day on December 4, a concert by the Indian Naval Symphonic Orchestra will be held on November 26 at the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research auditorium. The band will play in the city after a gap of five years.
Listing out the events planned as part of Navy Week celebrations to press persons here on Thursday, Commodore Amar Singh Baghel, Commanding Officer, INS Agrani, said these were to create awareness among the public about the Navy in keeping with the motto “We Care”.
“The first event was a visit to an orphanage by the members of the Naval Wives’ Welfare Association. A medical camp at Amarjyothi Colony near Bharathiar University will be held on November 20. A visit to an old age home will be on November 23,” the Commodore said.
Naval widows, living in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, and Tirupur, will be felicitated at a ceremony to be held on November 30 at INS Agrani. It would also be an occasion for them to share their grievances, if any, concerning pension, medical benefits, etc.
A reception for retired sailors and their families will be held on December 4.
The grand finale would be the reception hosted by the Commanding Officer of INS Agrani for all officers, serving and retired, and their families. Civil dignitaries will also be invited for the reception, to be held on December 5 at the Officers’ Mess.
