THANJAVUR: The Iyyarappar Natyanjali Festival will be held at Iyarrappar Temple at Thiruvaiyaru near Thanjavur in connection with the Mahasivarathiri festival from March 12 to 14, according to V. Gopalan, president of the Iyarappar Natyanjali Trust.
He told presspersons here recently that 38 dance troupes and in all 300 artistes would take part in the grand festival to be held at Thiruvokakka Mandapam before the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
The temple would remain open throughout night on March 13, the Mahasivarathiri day. People who throng the temple to witness the pujas would have an opportunity to see the Natyanjali, Mr. Gopalan said.
An artiste from Paris, Koiniyo, called as Paris Lakshmi, would also take part in the Iyarappar Natyanjali this year.
Thiruvaiyaru Government Arts College students would perform on the first day of the function.
Veena recital would be performed by more than 40 students on March 14.
Dr. Muthkumarasamy Thambiran of Dharumapuram adheenam would participate in the festival. S.N.M. Ubayathullah, Commercial Taxes Minister, would inaugurate the festival on March 12. S. S. Palani Manickam, Union Minister of State for Finance, would participate in the festival on March 14.
