To highlight the objective of the National Rural Livelihood Mission, the district administration has launched an awareness rally here on Tuesday.

Collector M. Ravikumar flagged off the rally at Therkku Silukkanpatti.

Amidst a band of musicians, the campaign vehicle reached out to the public with a message to eradicate poverty at rural areas.

The Collector said that Tuticorin, Karungulam, Sathankulam and Alwarthirunagari panchayat unions had been identified to implement the programme in the first phase.

The self-help group members had been formed to identify the poorest of the poor and the government would extend assistance to improve their economic conditions.

The campaigners would spread awareness of lifting the socio-economic status of the economically weaker section.

The identified people would be ensured livelihood support through credit facilities and required training for employment given under this programme.

Loans would also be extended for commencing new business. M. Shanthi, panchayat president, Silukkanpatti, Tuticorin Block Development Officers, Somasundaram and Subbulakshmi, and other officials attended.
