A Chennai police team picked up for interrogation M. Natarajan, husband of Sasikala, confidante of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, from a bungalow near Five Falls at Courtallam on Monday in connection with a case of alleged cheating. The detention was kept a secret as the team executed the operation even without informing the Courtallam police or the Special Branch police here.

In a complaint filed recently with the Chennai City Police, karate exponent Shihan Husseini alleged that Mr. Natarajan had agreed to pay Rs. 98 lakh for designing a 50-foot-long and six-foot-tall frieze to be installed at ‘Mullivaaikaal Memorial’ at Thanjavur.

The memorial was established by the World Tamil Confederation Trust to highlight the “mass killing of Tamils” during the last phase of the war between Sri Lankan forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 2009.

After giving Rs. 75 lakh, Mr. Natarajan allegedly refused to pay the rest, police sources said. The police sources said the four-member team had reached Courtallam from Chennai in a hired vehicle in the morning.
