Probing all angles, says DIG of Police

TIRUNELVELI: A girl student allegedly committed suicide in her room in a college hostel, at Mela Thidiyoor near here on Monday.

Police sources said the body of S. Sathyabama (21) of Achchamthavirththaan in Srivilliputhur, doing her second year MBA, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room in the college hostel.

The body was taken to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

Charges against college

Levelling sexual harassment charges against the administration of the college, a group of girl students from Kerala spoke to the media at Thiruvananthapuram some months ago.

However, the girl students were not prepared to give any formal police complaint, preventing the law-enforcers from pursuing the charges further.

When the reporters asked Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tirunelveli Range P. Kannappan during a press meet about these heinous charges by the “affected” girl students from Kerala and the latest suicide, he replied that the police would certainly conduct a thorough investigation into these issues.

No specific complaint

“Since Sathyabama had spoken to some persons in her mobile phone and sent some messages before taking this extreme step, we’re probing all angles to unravel the mystery behind the suicide. We’ll also investigate the charges of other girl students though we did not receive any specific complaint. If we happen to find anyone or a group responsible for this incident, they’ll certainly be brought to the book,” Mr. Kannappan assured.
