The Federation of Tamil Nadu Muslims Social and Political Organisations, a collective of 22 different Muslim groups, on Tuesday condoled the death of BJP State secretary V. Ramesh, who was murdered last week in Salem, and appealed to everyone concerned not to vitiate the investigation by seeing a communal angle behind it.

Talking to reporters here, the federation’s co-ordinator, A.K. Mohammed Hanifa said it was unfortunate that places of Muslim worship and some localities across the State were targeted by groups on Monday, when the BJP called for a State-wide bandh

“We want the perpetrators of the crime to be brought to the book, and we welcome the strong action of the Chief Minister,” Mr.Hanifa said. “However, the situation should not disintegrate into one where religious fervour is whipped up.”
