To conclude on December 13
The cultural festival of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra, will commence on Sunday.
A press release from the organisation said that the festival would be inaugurated by M. Narendra, chairman and managing director of Indian Overseas Bank at the Bhavan's Venkata auditorium, East Mada Street, Mylapore, at 6 p.m.
The inaugural function will be followed by a concert by Carnatic vocalist T.M. Krishna.
As part of the event, Preetha Reddy, managing director of Apollo Hospitals group, will inaugurate an exhibition of paintings on navagraha, nakshatra and rasi mandala by H.N. Suresh of Bangalore.
Carnatic vocalilsts T.M. Krishna and Sudha Raghunathan will be presented this year's P. Obul Reddy and P. Gnananba Memorial cash awards.
Three other eminent up-coming Carnatic musicians will also be presented cash awards on Sunday.
The festival will comprise 101 programmes of music, dance, harikatha, bhajan and literary discourses.
A daylong Sanskrit seminar on the relevance of Vedas and sastras in music and dance will be held on the concluding day on December 13.
The entire function is open to all on a first-come-first served basis, the release said.
