A group of musicians gathered at Sri Brahadambal temple in Tirugokarnam here recently, with the specific objective of reviving an old practice. They are all descendants of musicians appointed by the erstwhile Pudukottai Samasthanam to sing songs (kritis) glorifying the gods and goddesses of the temple.
In course of time, these families had re-settled at various places but continued their service to promote music and fine arts.
The group of musicians went down the memory lane when their forefathers had rendered musical service at the temple. They particularly recalled the extraordinary knowledge in music by veena vidwans 'Veenai' Sambasiva Iyer and Veenai Subramanya Iyer of the Samasthanam era.
About 40 musicians including K.S. Subramaniyam from Chennai, Karaikudi Krishnamurthy from London, Kamala from Puducherry, participated.
