CHENNAI: Audio Media Education Private Limited, Apple's authorised training centre, has come up with an interesting assignment for aspiring technicians.

The `I-create music video contest', launched here recently, gives those with a fascination for filming with a video camera an opportunity to showcase their skills.

Participants have to shoot a two-minute-long video for Bharatiyar's song `Jaadhigal illayadi paapa'.

The first 500 entrants registering for the contest will get to attend an orientation workshop on June 24 and 25, which will familiarise the candidates with the `I-movie' software for editing.

They will use this software to edit their footage later.

Speaking at the launch, actor R.S. Suriya said editing amounted to 50 per cent of direction.

There were several instances of films acquiring a new feel on the editing table, he said, adding, "Music videos are not too popular in southern India when compared to the north. This contest will help budding technicians break the entry-level barriers and step into the field."

Director Gautham Menon described the effort as a good opportunity for aspiring filmmakers.

The jury for the event comprised leading technicians and actors, including actors R.S. Suriya and Rohini, directors Gautham Menon and Selvaragavan, producer A.V.M.K. Shanmugam, editor Antony, music director Vijay Antony, art director Rajivan, cinematographer Aravind Krishna and choreographer Brinda.

Prizes to be won

Managing Director of the company Selvakumar said prizes included an Apple Mac book, video iPod and, more importantly, an opportunity to work with Gautham Menon in his next film.

Applicants may apply under two categories: one, for candidates between 16 and 23 years and the other, for those in the 24 to 30 age group.

Interested persons may visit www.audiomedia.in and download the song specially composed for the contest by music director Vijay Antony.

The organisers said that registration was free and that applicants could download the song from www.audiomedia.in.

Online registrations would be accepted from till June 23. Anyone with an eye for detail and access to a video camera can apply.
