Kovilpalayam police have registered a case against a mill worker, his wife and daughter on charges of murdering their neighbour. The police said that on Saturday morning, Murugan’s wife Kalaimani and daughter Kousalya had a quarrel with their neighbour Bakthavathsalam’s sister Pushpavalli over washing clothes using water from a public tap. After the area residents intervened, the quarrel came to an end. In the noon, the problem resumed when Murugan returned home after work. He went to Bakthavathsalam’s house, resumed the quarrel and in a fit of rage, hit him with wooden logs. The residents rushed Bakthavathsalam to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Following a complaint, the Kovilpalayam police are on the look out for the three.
Coimbatore City police have on Friday arrested goldsmith Moorthy, who reportedly decamped with 2,650 gm gold and Rs. 1.2 lakh in cash. The police said that they picked up Moorthy from his hideout in Gandhipuram in a case the Variety Hall Road police had registered. The police said that after receiving gold and cash from three jewellers, his customers, he went into hiding. The police said that Moorthy had mortgaged the gold.
Man commits suicide
Gopalakrishnan, 47, of Narayanasamy Street, Vadavalli, committed suicide at his residence by hanging after he lost his job. The Vadavalli police said that he resorted to the extreme step after the company he was working for wound up business after loss.
The special court here hearing cases registered under the Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors Act has on Friday ordered police custody for Devaraj and Sathyaraj, accused of cheating depositors by running the Kongunadu Emu and Poultry Farms in Namakkal.
