The police are interrogating five persons including one Thiyagu of the Erulappapuram near Nagercoil on Thursday in connection with the murder of a car driver, Manikandan (30) of Erulappapuram on Wednesday.

According to police sources, an eight-member gang attacked Manikandan with sickle and other deadly weapons due to previous enmity. Critically injured Manikandan was admitted to a private hospital for treatment, where he died.

Later, his body was sent to Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam for post-mortem. However, the relatives of the deceased refused to receive the body after the post-mortem demanding the police to arrest the culprits immediately.

However, after getting the assurance from the Superintendent of Police, Rajendran, that the culprits would be nabbed at the earliest, the relatives of the deceased received the body.

Based on a complaint lodged by the brother of deceased, Kutty alias Ramesh, the police have registered a case against eight persons.
