KANCHEEPURAM: A 37-year-old person, wanted in connection with a murder, was shot dead on the outskirts of Kancheepuram town on Friday night. Vellore South Police Inspector Madhivanan opened fire in self-defence when Krishnan hurled country bombs at the police in a bid to escape.

Krishnan and his associate Suriya were involved in the murder of Mohan (27) of Sathuvacheri near Vellore on November 16.

Mr. Madhivanan sustained burns on his hands and was admitted to the Government District Headquarters Hospital here. The police said the deceased was involved in several cases. An illicit liquor sachet production unit run by him at Thirukalimedu was unearthed by the Kancheepuram Prohibition Enforcement Wing recently.
