Rajasthan Cosmo Club Platinum uses it to explain their search for identity in a corrupt world
CHENNAI: At the celebration of `Yuva - the spirit of youth' on Sunday, the youth wing of the Rajasthan Cosmo Club used the Sanjay Dutt-starrer `Munna Bhai' series as a prop to explain their search for identity in a world characterised by "brashtachar" (corruption).
Hit with parents
The programme was a hit with the audience, which contained a large number of middle-aged parents, who saw themselves portrayed as sedate, wise men and women against spirited, and, sometimes, wayward youths. Children go to school with prayers on their lips but grow up in a world of harsh realities. Youngsters become dishonest, lose sight of their goal, fall by the wayside and use deceit to escape skirmishes when found out.
But, as in `Lage Raho Munna Bhai', they find a mentor they had forgotten in their hurry to grow up. They reform themselves and try to reform the world around them, sometimes rudely and at others politely.
More than 100 youngsters participated in the programme, which included a fashion show that traced Bollywood fashion from the 1960s to 2006. The performers gave the audience a peek into the fashion statement and mannerisms of the actors they aped.
Members of Rajasthan Cosmo Club Platinum, youth wing of the RCC, were assisted by Sanjay Asrani (choreography), John Britto, Kurinji Nathan and Gopinathan (mime and street theatre). A skit on the social values of today's youth was produced in-house. Hindi film songs formed the backdrop for the dance sequences.
