Residents want administration to desilt it

ERODE: Ever heard of a well used by the municipality to dump garbage? Situated at Teachers Colony is an open well, behind an elementary school. There is no water in the well and it is used to dump building materials.

"About 15 years ago the well had sufficient water and Teachers Colony residents used it by pumping water from the well," said one of the residents of the area N. Kumar on Tuesday. "But now there is no water in the well and it is in bad shape,'' Mr Kumar said. The residents urged the Surampatty Grade Three Municipality to erect fencing round the well. But now a big compound wall has been constructed.

Unemployed youth

A few unemployed youth collect waste papers and scraps dumped by the municipality and residents.

"If the Municipal administration clears the garbage and desilts the well, certainly water will come which could be used by the residents of the area," Mr Kumar said. People suggested that after clearing the garbage from the well, the administration could sink a borewell.

They also wanted the Collector to take steps to have a parapet wall constructed.
