The annual day celebrations of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women were held recently. The college celebrated the Golden Jubilee annual day by inviting R. Varadarajan, director, Rajshree Sugars, as the chief guest. He urged students to multiply their talents and efforts to achieve more. He asked them to use digital technology for the purpose. Meritorious students were honoured. Awards were given away to best faculty members.
A mini marathon was organised by Kathir College of Engineering with the theme “Mahalirin Maanbu Kaapom”. It was flagged off by Shiny Wilson. On the occasion, the twirling of flag for a long time by 7,544 people entered Elite World Records.
A two-week refresher course on ‘Vision and Challenges of Cloud Computing and Pervasive Computing’ was organised by the School of Information Technology and Science of Dr. G.R. Damodaran College of Science. It was a residential programme funded by the Indian Academy of Science, Indian National Science Academy, and National Academy of Sciences. It was inaugurated by Ramalatha Marimuthu, International Chair, IEEE Women in Engineering. The valediction was presided over by B.L. Deekshatulu, FASc, Course Director. Nearly 35 participants from premier academic institutions attended the course.
The Department of Science and Humanities, Faculty of Engineering, Women Study Centre of Avinashilingam University of Women, in association with Rotaract Club of the university, organised a quiz programme ‘Eve Quotient’ on women achievers.
M. Rangarajan, quiz master, threw posers at the eight teams that were drawn from a total of 108. The team from first year M.Sc. Biotechnology bagged the first prize of Rs. 3,000, second year BE Computer Science students’ team bagged the second prize of Rs. 2,000, while first year B.Com. team bagged the third prize of Rs. 1,000.
A national workshop on ‘Engineering Tribology’ was conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Dr. N.G.P. Institute of Technology. A. Sethuramiah, former professor of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, gave an introduction to tribology. Satish Vasu Kailas, Professor of Indian Institute of Science, handled two sessions on the effect of roughness on friction, and sustainability and tribology.
The Institute Day of Coimbatore Institute of Technology was held recently. Nikolay A. Listopadov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Southern India, was the chief guest. Speaking on the exchange programmes in science, engineering and technology, between India and Russia, he pointed out that there was a need for India and Russia to work together in the areas of science and information technology.
The graduation day of Nehru College of Aeronautics and Applied Sciences was held recently. S. Darius Gnanaraj, dean, Research, Karunya University, was the chief guest. He delivered the graduation day address and gave away degree certificates to 150 candidates. P. Krishna Kumar, chief executive officer and secretary, of the college, presided over the ceremony.
The graduation day of KG College of Arts and Science was held recently. K. Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, was the chief guest. He delivered the graduation day address and gave away the degree certificates to 708 candidates. Ashok Bhakthavathsalam, managing trustee, presided over the function.
Founder’s Day was observed at Guruvayurappan Institute of Management. A memorial lecture to commemorate the event was held, where Justice K. Narayana Kurup, retired Judge, High Court of Kerala, spoke on ‘Judicial Activism for Public Good’.
While the judiciary was primarily responsible for interpreting legislations, it also had a major responsibility of protecting the fundamental rights of citizens, he said.
‘Feb Fiesta’ was held at GRG School of Management Studies recently. It served as a platform for budding entrepreneurs to be exposed to the real market scenario. There was food fete, costume carnival, game gala and garage sale. Students managed a total of 23 stalls. It gave them an opportunity to not only make money, but also utilise resources, work in teams, develop marketing and advertising skills, compete and nurture selling skills.
