30,729 candidates expected to receive degrees

A total of 30,729 candidates — 421 in person and 30,308 in absentia — are expected to receive their degrees at the 21st convocation of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University here on Monday.

Addressing media persons here on Saturday, Vice-Chancellor A.K. Kumaraguru said Governor Konijeti Rosaiah would preside over the convocation while B.R. Subramanian, former advisor, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and Senior Scientific Consultant, National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management, Chennai, would deliver the convocation address.

Four students, all undergraduates, are receiving double gold medals in BA (Economics and History) and B.Sc. (Chemistry and Computer Science) streams.

The number of candidates receiving Ph.D. are: 289 (men – 133; women – 156); M.Phil.: 33 (men – 6; women – 27; and in absentia - 1,362); postgraduate degrees: 54 (men – 9; women – 45; and in absentia – 9,202); undergraduate degrees: 45 (men – 11; women – 34; and in absentia 19,744).
