The Centre has sanctioned a sum of Rs 975.83 crore for the implementation of various projects in Villupuram district in the past two years, according to M. Anandan, MP.

He made this observation while reviewing the implementation of Central schemes in the district in his capacity as the head of the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee here on Thursday.

Mr. Anandan noted that it was the objective of the Committee that benefits of all government schemes reached the target groups in time. It was the responsibility of elected representatives to periodically visit project sites to keep tab on the works.

The government had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 30.4 lakh for re-laying a road at Aaramedu and Rs. 46.82 lakh for the construction of three bridges across the road.

Mr. Anandan reviewed the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the complete sanitation proramme and the national social security scheme.

Collector V.Sampath, District Revenue Officer R. Brindadevi, Project Officer (DRDA) G. Muthumeenal, and District Panchayat Chairperson Alamelu Velu were present.
