Wants Centre to declare ‘Ramar Bridge’ as national monument

RAMANATHAPURAM: Rameswaram Ramsetu Protection Movement will stage a road blockade on September 12, said its national secretary, D. Kuppuramu.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said that the countrywide protest would be held between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Cadres of various organisations and political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, would participate in the protest demanding the Centre to declare ‘Rama Bridge’ as national monument and breaking it in the name of Sethu project.

Mr. Kuppuramu said despite strong opposition from eminent personalities and experts including V.R. Krisha Iyer, K.T. Thomas, the Government was pursuing the Sethu project.

The Minister for Shipping, T.R. Baalu was refusing to meet the leaders opposing the project and listen to their demands.

The movement had been compelled to resort a road blockade, as so many other agitations, so far, organised by the movement had not yielded any positive response from the Centre.
