Udhagamandalam: The Coonoor Citizens’ Forum has expressed concern over the proposed hike in property tax. Pointing out that the number of people opposing the proposal was steadily rising, the Secretary of the Forum D. Krishnarajan has in a letter sent to the Municipal Commissioner, Coonoor, said that the residents were facing financial problems.

While the tea industry was in a sad state, the overall economy of Coonoor was far from satisfactory since there were no development activities. Employment opportunities have become scarce. Due to price rise, people have been forced to change their lifestyle. Hence, the civic administration should reconsider its move to increase tax.
