Owners of two-wheelers and cars running on petrol had a tough time in Namakkal town on Wednesday and Thursday as most of the fuel stations ran out of petrol due to overwhelming demand for the fuel for the Diwali season.

Some of the petrol bunk operators said that they ran out of petrol on Tuesday night – on the eve of Diwali.

More fuel was pumped into vehicles from other district that were running through the district to go to other places for the Diwali holidays, a bunk operator said and added that local vehicle users in the town also filled more fuel in their vehicles on Tuesday after forecasting the dearth that would prevail on the day after Diwali.

However, there was adequate stock of diesel in many bunks.

Normalcy returned only when the petrol tankers brought fuel to the bunks on Thursday afternoon.
