The rally aims to spread awareness about AIDS
SALEM: A batch of National Cadet Corps (NCC) from the Sona College of Technology here has undertaken a "Salem to Kanyakumari" motorcycle expedition to spread awareness among the rural people about the ills of AIDS scourge.
Flagged off by the college Secretary, A. Dhirajlal, here on Monday and led by Lieutenant P. Jagadish, the 11 cadets, who are taking part in the expedition, will cover the important towns such as Erode, Palani, Madurai and Kanyakumari and will return to Salem via Tuticorin, Rameshwaram and Tiruchi on August 11. They will also cover all the wayside habitations, which are primarily rural ones.
The students will distribute handbills that carried information on HIV and AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases to the public. They will also spread the message of safe sex and the need for using condoms. The campaign will mostly revolve around the preventive measures.
Those who attended the flagging off function included the Principal, P. Govindarajan and Col. Rama Rao. Two staff members from the college will also accompany the cadets.
