NAGAPATTINAM: The Tsunami Intervention New Life Project, an extension project of the postgraduate and research department of social work of Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi, conducted several competitions on Monday for the school children in the tsunami-affected areas.

To improve self-confidence

The college which is running a project ‘in support of the children and communities affected by the tsunami in building a new life in the coastal area of Nagapattinam’ in collaboration with UCOA, Australia, conducted several programmes to improve self-confidence of the tsunami-affected children of Akkaraipettai and Nambiyar Nagar coastal hamlets.

Rev. I. Franklin, Pastor, Nagapattinam, inaugurated the events.

A. Relton, Head and Reader, Department of Social Work, Bishop Heber College, B. Arunkumar, Lecturer, R. Saraswathi, Project Officer, New Life Project and others spoke.

Prizes

In all, 117 prizes were distributed to the children and 30 prizes to students who scored good marks and had earned best attendance in schools.
