THANJAVUR: By way of sensitising academic staff to a sense of direction, a motivation programme was conducted at Pattukottai Polytechnic College at Pattukottai recently.

M. Palani Aranga Samy, Director of Publications, Tamil University, said that learning was a never ending process and a teacher ceased to be one if he or she ceased to be a learner.

Once an able teacher recognises an uninterested student, he should come to his level and make him understand things.

Maintaining discipline, creating thrust for knowledge and initiating motivation for progress are fundamental requisites of effective teaching.

Proficiency in academic activities could be cultivated by regular newspaper reading, internet browsing, encyclopaedia reference, yearbooks and dictionaries, he said. Principal of the College A. Vijeykishoor presided.
