CHENNAI: Most parts of the State received heavy to moderate rainfall during the 24-hour-period that ended at 8-30 a.m. on Monday. Tondi (in Ramanathapuram district) registered the maximum rainfall, 16 cm, followed by R.S. Mangalam (Ramanathapuram) – 15 cm. The Meteorological Department attributed the rainfall to the persistence of a trough of low pressure over southwest bay and the adjoining west central bay off the coast of Tamil Nadu-south Andhra Pradesh. It said widespread rainfall was expected over the State on Tuesday. — Special Correspondent
