Humanitarian gesture by Lions Club

Udhagamandalam: The Lions Club of Ooty Crown is making sustained efforts to fulfil a long-felt need of the Nilgiris district, said the Past Governor, Lions District 324 B1 L.Vijayaraj here on Wednesday.

Participating in a function organized to install the office bearers of the club for 2008-2009, he said that the club had for quite some time been keen on making available a mortuary van for use in the Nilgiris in general and Udhagamandalam in particular.

Stating that the van was estimated to cost Rs. 7 lakh, he said that already a sum of Rs.3.25 lakh had been raised from District 324 B1.

The balance would be raised with the help of the members of the Lions clubs.

The well-equipped van will be maintained by the Lions Club of Ooty Crown.

N.Krishnamoorthy who took over as the President of the club said that high priority would be accorded to eye care programmes.

Schemes relating to education, health, environment and physically challenged persons would be implemented systematically.

M.Shanker proposed a vote of thanks.

The following persons were installed as office bearers of the club: N.Krishnamoorthy-President, R.P.Goutham and P.Gangadharan - Vice Presidents, K.Prakash - Secretary, Chandrakumar Galada - Joint Secretary and B.S.Kanappan - Treasurer.
