CHENNAI: The Chairman and Managing Director of United India Insurance Company, G. Srinivasan, has said that the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) was responding to changes in the global scenario and wanted the institute-industry interaction to be scaled up further to meet the future needs.

Speaking after unveiling a plaque to mark the formal inauguration of the renovated administrative block of the SIRC-ICWAI here on Friday, Mr. Srinivasan underscored the need for updating the curriculum and the teaching programmes to enable the future generation of Cost and Works Accountants to survive in the highly competitive field.

Pat for institute

While appreciating the efforts taken by the institute for taking up image building initiatives, Mr.Srinivasan appealed to the institute to actively involve the past members who are in high positions in various industries to extend a helping hand in positioning the institute globally and improving its visibility by launching new marketing initiatives.

‘Change is essential’

Pointing out that change was essential in present day environment, Mr.Srinivasan commended the efforts of the chairman of the SIRC of ICWAI, Sunil Chacko, and his team for improving the working conditions at the institute and its ambience.

Mr. Sunil Chacko explained that the renovation of the SIRC-ICWAI was taken up to improve the brand image of the institute and also to facilitate more campus interviews to take place for securing placements for the students.

He said two classrooms would also be modernised to make it on a par with any business school in the city. G.

Accountancy Technician course

N.Venkataraman, Central Council Member, said a certified Accountancy Technician course would be launched by the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants to meet the specific needs of the small and medium enterprises and tiny industries.

CDs presented

M. Gopalakrishnan, another Central Council member, presented CDs containing various new image building initiatives and knowledge updating programmes launched by the Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India to Mr.Srinivasan.
