Arthi-theatre junction to get traffic signal soon: SP

DINDIGUL: With the installation of an automatic traffic signal at the Periyar statue junction, near the main branch of the State Bank of India, the town now has in almost all junctions, except the Aarthi theatre-Tiruchi Road junction.

The Collector, R. Vasuki, switched on the system commissioned at an estimated cost of Rs.2.07 lakh under Road Safety Fund.

"It was a long felt need of the people," she said.

"Additional funds would be provided in future to extend better facilities for the safety of road users."

The main objective of installing automatic signal system was to regulate traffic in the town and ensure smooth flow of vehicles during peak hours, said A. Pari, Superintendent of Police.

Massive efforts would also be taken to streamline traffic within town limit. Steps were on to install a signal at the Arthi-theatre junction also. Additional police would also be deployed at the junction to monitor movement of vehicles.

Already, instructions had been given to police not to allow vehicles to enter Mengles Road from Natham Main Road in order to avoid traffic congestion near Nagal Nagar over bridge and reduce accidents. Vehicles from Nagal Nagar over bridge should not take a right turn to enter Mengles road. Stern action would be initiated against violators.

A barricade has been installed at the entrance of Mengles Road to block entry of vehicles from the over bridge.

At present, traffic signal system is functioning at Palani Road, Tiruchi Road, Nehruji Nagar, Begampur, Nagal Nagar roundabout.
