Footpaths, crematoria, roads and playgrounds to be improved

Chennai: Mayor M. Subramanian on Friday told residents of Kilpauk, Anna Nagar, Shenoy Nagar and Aminjikarai that substantial funds had been allocated for civic improvements in their localities.

The Mayor participated in a `Grievance Day' programme in Corporation Zone V and received 131 petitions.

Allocations for infrastructure development in 2007-08 are: road works: Rs. 9.28 crore; footpaths: Rs. 22.5 lakh; expansion of roads: Rs. 25.98 lakh; developing playgrounds in parks: Rs. 99 lakh; renovation of four burial grounds/ crematoria: Rs. 64.93 lakh; 12 noon meal centres: Rs. 73 lakh; a gymnasium: Rs. 9 lakh and public toilets: Rs. 5 lakh.

The Velankadu crematorium in Anna Nagar will be provided with a gasifier unit.. Crematoria in Nungambakkam, Arumbakkam, Virugambakkam and Koyambedu will also get gasifier units. Mr. Subramanian said 230 streetlights would be installed at a cost of Rs. 32.7 lakh. Residents can submit petitions to the Mayor at Ripon Building at 11 a.m. every Tuesday.

He will visit different zones by turn every Friday.
