VELLORE: The State government has increased the financial powers of the village panchayats, panchayat unions and district panchayats to enable them to adopt resolutions relating to the implementation of essential works so that they can expedite the works.
Vellore Collector said in a release that as per the Government Order No.203 of the Department of Rural Development (DRD) dated December 20, 2007, the value of the works for which the village panchayats could pass resolutions had been increased from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.2 lakh, that of the panchayat unions from Rs.5 lakh to Rs.10 lakh and that of the district panchayats from Rs.10 lakh to Rs.20 lakh.
The government had also increased the powers of the evaluators of the works.
As per the G.O. no.204 dated December 24, 2007 of the DRD, the panchayat union engineer could evaluate works to the value of up to Rs.1 lakh, the assistant executive engineer evaluate works valued at Rs.one lakh to Rs.five lakh and the executive engineers evaluate works valued above Rs.five lakh.
