CHENNAI: The cancellation of Jet Airways services from here to metros such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad has led to an increased demand for business class seats in other airlines. These airlines have increased the prices of tickets of business class tickets. On Thursday, the Club Class of Kingfisher Airlines from Chennai to New Delhi was full and each ticket was priced around Rs.33,000 plus. In Air India the fare was Rs. 28,914.

Jet Airways operates a large number of flights covering all the Metros. It operates nearly six flights everyday to New Delhi alone. Similar is the case with other metros. This is one of the main reasons for the increased demand for business class tickets, say Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials.

Enquiry at the ticket counters at the airport revealed that the cost of economy class tickets ranged between Rs.4,300 and Rs.6,650. Another AAI official pointed out that those who travelled in the economy class of Jet Airways had switched over to other airlines.

D. Sudhakara Reddy, national president, Air Passengers Association of India, said in a statement that the Jet Airways was making all efforts to accommodate passengers in other airlines, but the latter wanted to make quick money.

Condemning the attitude of the other airlines, the association appealed to the Director General of Civil Aviation to conduct an enquiry into the unethical practice of charging exorbitant fares. It also appealed to the Jet Airways management and pilots to resume a healthy dialogue and resolve all issues.
