The Vasudevanallur police are on the lookout for unidentified persons who killed a moneylender on Wednesday night.

They said F. Jalaludeen (65), a moneylender from Vasudevanallur in the district, was found murdered in a room at a lodge in which he was staying for the past several months after his wife died.

The matter came to light on Thursday morning when those who were staying in the nearby rooms saw blood flowing from Jalaludeen’s room, which was locked from outside.

When the police opened the room, the body of the moneylender was lying on the floor with a deep slit on his throat.

The police suspect that Jalaludeen might have been murdered either by borrowers or by a group of drunkards who were chased away by the old man when they were found consuming liquor in the corridor of the lodge.

The police have registered a case.
