First-of-its-kind in Tiruchi
TIRUCHI: A motorised catheterisation laboratory for cardiac imaging was inaugurated at Moorthys Hospital here on Sunday.
To mark its inauguration, K. Subramanyam, a cardiologist from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, performed a live angioplasty procedure.
Later, another cardiologist from the Chennai hospital, K.P. Mishra, spoke on developments on the coronary artery disease front.
The laboratory is equipped to handle diagnosis (angiogram) and perform angioplasty within a span of 10 minutes. The digital images of the patient's coronary arteries would be projected on a monitor, said the chief doctor of the hospital, P.V. Moorthy.
Claimed to be the first-of-its-kind in Tiruchi, this equipment would record images digitally that could be retrieved on a later date. "This state-of-the-art digital imaging system will reduce the time to perform angioplasty from the normal two hours to 10 minutes," said Dr. Moorthy.
