To educate electorate on how to cast their votes in civic elections

NAGAPATTINAM: Model polling booths have been set up in the Collectorate here and also in the four municipalities of Nagapattinam, Mayiladuturai, Vedaranyam and Sirkazhi, 11 panchayat union offices and eight town panchayat offices in the district on Monday, to educate voters, both in urban and rural areas, as to how to cast their votes for the ensuing civic polls.

The Collector, Tenkasi S. Jawahar, who inaugurated the model polling booth at the Collectorate here on Monday, said that the booths were aimed at creating awareness as to how to cast votes for electing councillors and ward members for the municipal councils and panchayat unions.

The Collector said that the printing of ballot papers was over and pointed out that in all 20,55,740 ballot papers had been printed for the civic polls in the four municipalities and ward members in eight town panchayats, 11 panchayat unions, one district panchayat and 434 panchayat presidents and panchayat members.

Mr. Jawahar said that ballot boxes were being sent to all municipal and panchayat union areas.

In all 5,604 ballot boxes were being sent to various parts of the district for the civic polls to be conducted in 1,987 polling booths.

The total electorate is l 10,20,896 (5,07,569 men and 5,13,327 women voters) and 14,158 employees were drafted for poll duty on October13 and 15.

He pointed out that that stern action would be initiated against parties and candidates violating the poll guidelines and rules and also model code of conduct.
