THANJAVUR: A mock fire drill was conducted at the LPG bottling plant of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, a Fortune 500 company, at South Palayapatti near Sengipatti near here on Saturday.

The mock scenario was that during unloading, there is a heavy leakage of LPG through a burst hose leading to a major fire. How to extinguish it and provide first aid to affected persons and move them to hospital was the exercise. As the siren sounded, the staff went into action and demonstrated fire control measures.

In the post mock drill review, Collector M.S. Shanmugham, who was present, among other officials, suggested putting up signboards to guide staffers and visitors to various areas inside the plant

K. Arul, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, said that the mock fire drill was conducted twice every year. “Doing is knowing things firsthand and hence the demonstration,” he said.
