A mock drill on disaster management was conducted at Sethu Laksmi Bai Government Higher Secondary School on Tuesday.

Deputy Commandant Achuthan of National Disaster Response Force said that the disaster management response and rescue team was set up in 2007 under the direct control of Prime Minister's Office.

There were 18 groups consisting of 700 members in the team who would rush to the affected areas and involve in rescue operation within 30 minutes after receiving the phone call at the headquarters situated at Arakkonam.

The next team would be sent within 2 hours. According to the situation, the NDFR has the power to call the rescue team from armed forces directly, said Deputy Commandant Achuthan.
