MADURAI: A mock drill was conducted at the LPG plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in Kappalur near Madurai on Thursday.

It was done as per the ‘Onsite Emergency Disaster Management Plan’ and carried out to demonstrate the capacity of the HPCL plant in combating any emergency in an organised manner by utilising the combined fire fighting resources available at the LPG plant. A. V. Suresh, Plant Manager, guided the plant personnel in carrying out the combat/rescue operations, according to a press release here. The LPG plant at Kappalur in Madurai district caters to the requirements of five lakh consumers of 14 districts in the State for domestic and commercial category consumers.

M. Meera Mytheen, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, Madurai, along with Kadiresan, Station Fire Officer, Tirumangalam, were present. Ambulance team from Apollo Speciality Hospitals here enacted carrying out first aid to the injured.
